A List to Live By: Giving

The Greatest Joy – Giving

Writing these blog post under this theme list to live by, isn’t be about achievements or titles. It wouldn’t measure success by what we accumulate or how busy we are. Instead, it would focus on what truly shapes a meaningful life.

Near the very top of that list would be this:

The greatest joy is giving.

Not because giving is easy. Not because it’s always convenient. But because giving has a way of changing us from the inside out.

Why Giving Matters

Giving shifts our focus away from what we lack and toward what we already have. It reminds us that we are not just recipients in this world—we are contributors.

Giving doesn’t always involve money. Often, the most meaningful forms of giving are:

  • Time
  • Attention
  • Kindness
  • Encouragement
  • Understanding

These are the things that cost little, yet carry immense value.

The Quiet Power of Giving

There is a quiet joy that comes from helping without expecting anything in return. No recognition. No repayment. Just the simple knowledge that you made someone’s day lighter.

Giving grounds us. It connects us. It reminds us that even small actions can ripple outward in ways we never fully see.

Giving Changes Both Sides

What’s often overlooked is that giving doesn’t just help the person receiving—it transforms the person giving.

When we give:

  • We feel more connected
  • We gain perspective
  • We experience gratitude more deeply

Giving pulls us out of ourselves and into something bigger.

Living the List

A list to live by doesn’t have to be complicated. It just has to be intentional.

The greatest joy isn’t found in holding tightly—it’s found in opening our hands.

When we give freely, we live more fully.

And that joy?
It has a way of coming back to us—often when we least expect it.

If any part of this resonates with you, I invite you to share it with others.
You’re also welcome to leave a comment—I’d love to hear from you.

Sincerely
